Europe pre-wedding trip Day 9 (Munich)

17/8/2013

Itinerary of today:
Breakfast @on the train
Munich
Fussen
Schloss Hohenschwangau
Neuschwanstein
Dinner @ Ludwigs
Jaeger’s Hostel

We booked our train tickets on DB bahn directly (EUR35 /person). It took us around one and a half hour to get to Munich. We planned to arrive at 10:30am, dropping our baggage at the hostel and got back to the train station to catch the 11:52 train to Fussen.

But we were in bad luck having a delay and arrived there at 11:30. Just thought of having plan B ---> run-go-see. So we all rushed into the Central Station luggage storage, putting all our baggage into the lockers.

A small locker (W28 x H42 x D76 cm) costs EUR3 for 24 hours, a large one (W47 x H61 x D91 cm) costs EUR5. We occupied 4 large ones and a small one...

We ran crazily to buy the train tickets and hopped onto the train. (We did all the things in 15 minutes! All the people in the station must think that we were insane!) For sure if we were not young enough, we would catch a heart attack after all.

One thing to remind group travellers, buying the Baden-Württember-Ticket just took us EUR34 for 4 of us. It's a kind of value ticket for a group of people travelling together with cheaper price.

Arriving at Fussen after many setbacks. Found out the time of the last train back to Munich immediately to avoid any misfortune happened again.

Just right next to the train station was a bus terminal with bus going to Schloss Hohenschwangau. (EUR4/ person)

Neuschwanstein Castle was built between 1869 and 1886 under King Ludwig II of Bavaria. It was only possible to go with the guided tour, and provided that there were heaps of tourists, we only managed to book the 4pm tour. As we were running out of time, we bought the ticket to Neuschwanstein only.

And before that, we still have 2 to 3 hours to go, so we took a look at the outlook of Schloss Hohenschwangau and the surroundings.

There were a few choices to go up to the Neuschwanstein Castle: by horse carriage, bus or on foot. We chose to take the bus. But the queue was crazily long! Did't waste the time and had a hotdog while waiting for the bus. (EUR2/ person)

The first thing we saw after getting off the bus was this sign. One was pointing to the way to Marienbrucke Bridge, which is built 90 metres above the Pöllat Gorge. Tourists flock here because the bridge offers a unique and stunning view of Neuschwanstein.

Another way was heading to Neuschwanstein.

Still got 15 minutes to go before we could join the tour. Bought some snacks again. Actually food there were quite expensive with limited choices. Better bring your own if you are visiting there.

Finally we could get into this magnificent castle. It was greatly furnished. But photos were not allowed. We could only put what we saw in our mind.

Took a bus back to Fussen and there was only an hour left for dinner. Quickly found a restaurant and finished our dinner at Ludwigs in a hurry. (EUR48 in total) Then got back to our hostel and got some sleep right away. (It was too late at night and did't tour around the hostel. Will write in detail in the next blog.)
