Made good use of the Best Rate Guarantee (BRG) for hotel another time, we claimed a very cheap stay celebrating the beginning of my Christmas holiday.
Using the trick of BRG which matches the lower rate I found on other websites plus a compensation of USD50/ claim, we got a stay at USD11.91 only! (around HKD96)
Orbitz's offer: more than USD61.91
Agoda's offer: USD61.91- USD50 compensation= USD11.91
However, I found it being much harder to claim BRG now since the rules and staff are examining the claims very strictly.
As the recently opened Whampoa Station was new to us, we were both very excited to take the MTR there.
Arriving at the hotel, it was rather like a commercial building outside.
But once we got inside, it was another world. This is a very trendy hotel with good use of lights. Check-in was fast and we were upgraded to a superior room on the 21st floor.
The room was with an incredibly wonderful light system. Everything looked simple and clean. However, I can imagine the tourists visiting Hong Kong with their baggage living in this hotel. It might be a downside for them as there was hardly any walking space left after opening the luggage rack.
Although it was quite small, the amenities were quite good. Mini bar was free. Shower gel, shampoo, conditioner and lotion were a local brand from London.
There were also shuttle service and a free mobile to use during the stay stay, equipped with 3g internet access and maps for you to get around the city. Of course we are local and we don't need this, but it surely shows how caring and considerate the hotel is.
The Whampoa MTR station is a 10min walk away. There are many eateries, and really good food nearby! We went to Seafood Stand for afternoon tea. It is a hidden gem with nice atmosphere. The price was reasonable and food was great too!
Planned to wander around and try more food around the area, but it was time for reunion dinner with my family as well. So we travelled all the way back to Lam Tin for that and back to the hotel at night.

Woke up not very early and decided to call the front desk and see if we could have late check-out. Luckily we could spend one more hour there. Chatted with Lawrence and found that both of us didn't sleep well coz we both felt bugs on the bed! Of course I told the staff and the manager came up quite fast checking the problem. Anyway, we told her about our disappointment but she couldn't help and only kept apologizing.
We couldn't let the disappointment ruin our getaway. Headed to Tsui Wah for breakfast. Then, spent some time exploring Whampoa. Actually it is quite a nice place to live in especially with the MTR is running in the area.
Headed back to the hotel again. Finished the complimentary fruit given last night and rested a bit. Overall, the experience was quite good provide that we only paid less. Should try to do it more often if I can claim for BRG and search for cheap hotels.
