Birthday family stay -YHA Mei Ho House @Hong Kong

9-10/7/2016
Made good use of the Best Rate Guarantee (BRG) for hotel again, we claimed a very cheap stay celebrating my birthday with joy together with my family.

Using the trick of BRG which matches the lower rate I found in other websites plus a compensation of USD50/ claim, we got a stay at USD14.67 only with breakfast included! (around HKD117)

Orbitz's offer: more than USD64.67
Agoda's offer: USD64.67- USD50 compensation= USD14.67

YHA Mei Ho House Youth Hostel was located at Shek Kep Mei, a bit of walk from the MTR station. Even it is named as a hostel, there is a variety of room types to choose from catering the needs of single travellers (dormitories), couples (Double rooms) or even family (Family Ensuites).

Maybe it was the peak hour when everybody checked in and out the hostel, we had been waited for a while for our turn at the reception. Nevertheless, it didn't impatient coz every corner of the hostel looked interesting and unique to us.

Got our room keys with breakfast vouchers attached in the well designed card holders and headed to see our room immediately.

We were lucky enough to be assigned 4 rooms in a row and it would be much easier to contact each other. The room should be definitely very spacious compared to normal hotels in Hong Kong. Our window faced the streets and it was slightly noisier. Bathrooms are clean and roomy. Don't expect fancy hotel rooms. It was more like a simple cozy ones.

While the rest of our group were taking a rest, Lawrence and I decided to tour around this lovely hostel. Obviously couldn't stay away from the art work showing old Hong Kong.

The facilities were so nice that I could hardly believe that it is a hostel. Cafe, kitchen, common room, shop and lots of open areas to chill. I can say that this place was one of the greatest hostels that I've ever stayed.

It was time for dinner and we made our way to Ban Heung Lau, quite a well-known restaurant among Hong Kong locals but it's hard for visitors to go because they only have Chinese menu. We were way too hungry after around 20 minutes walk to get there and just finished all the food in a flash! Iced chocolate is a must to try! Packed some food for Dad as well coz he was gonna join us after work.

Daddy having dinner with us in the common room. See how hard we could take a photo with all looking at the camera with a baby!

Played Chinese snooker at the same time. Games could be rent at the reception for free.

We all had a great time as well as a great sleep after a long fun day.

Here came the second day of our stay. Started our day with the complimentary breakfast at House 41. It was in Hong Kong style coming with a set. We were all stuffed though the taste of the breakfast was just fair.

Lazed around again waiting for the 11am free guided tour. See this little guy was a bit out of control! Haha!

Mei House Hostel is clearly and thoughtfully designed, adding sprinkles of the past around the complex to remind you of the culture and heritage of the past.
The exhibition display let us experience the time when modern meets the past. What a great activity to end our stay!
